Information for the General Public

Many infectious diseases are easily spread, and in different ways – air droplets, body fluids, contaminated surfaces, animal or insect bites, or contaminated food or water. The health department works to reduce the risk of spread by tracking infectious diseases to their source and notifying people who have been exposed. For information about how you can prevent exposure to an infectious disease please visit the CDC web site.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) offers up-to-date information on some of the most common infectious diseases. The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) publishes reports on infectious diseases, including data on Missoula County.

Missoula City-County Health Department (MCCHD) offers testing for only two infectious diseases: HIV and Hepatitis C. Rapid testing is available by appointment at the Health Department. Tests are a finger stick and results are ready within 20 minutes.
