Many infectious diseases are easily spread, and in different ways – air droplets, body fluids, contaminated surfaces, animal or insect bites, or contaminated food or water. The health department works to reduce the risk of spread by tracking infectious diseases to their source and notifying people who have been exposed. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) offers up-to-date information on some of the most common infectious diseases. The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) publishes reports on infectious diseases, including data on Missoula County.
HIV and Hepatitis C Testing Services
Missoula City-County Health Department (MCCHD) offers testing for only two infectious diseases: HIV and Hepatitis C. Rapid testing is available by appointment at the Health Department. Tests are a finger stick and results are ready within 20 minutes.

As of 2016, the American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending an HIV screening for adolescents between 16 and 18 years old. This is to address the latest federal statistics that show 1 in 4 new HIV infections occurs in youth 13 to 24. … and about 60% of all youth with HIV don’t know they are infected.
