Do you know a High School aged student that is interested in a Career In Law Enforcement?

Cadets are high school aged students who are interested in Law Enforcement, either as a future career, or as an after school activity. Cadets receive law enforcement training in general, and learn specifics about the Missoula County Sheriff's Department.

Cadets receive instruction and field experience in jail procedures, radio dispatch procedures, Montana Criminal Code, and other procedures used in the officer’s daily patrol duties.  Films are shown and discussed, and guest speakers from related areas in law enforcement are scheduled to speak.  Cadets are exposed to possible careers in law enforcement as a result of the speakers.  Cadets have taken field trips to other law enforcement agencies in this state, and other states and Canada, The Montana State Crime Lab, The Montana State Prison, several national Explorer Conferences, and Regional Conferences, winning both a national award and a regional award.

The Cadets have also participated in numerous public service events such as the Missoula County Air Show, March of Dimes Walk-a-Thon, providing security to various schools for scheduled dances, assisting Reserve Deputies with security at concerts and many other local events.  The Cadets have provided valuable assistance to the Department by serving as volunteer counselors at the annual Law Enforcement Youth Camp and worked security at The Western Montana Fair.
